Australia’s PhD-qualified research workforce, which is heavily reliant on overseas students, will be further diminished as the government’s migration crackdown takes a toll, leading research and philanthropy figures warn.
Experts say slashing the number of international students, which has been adopted as policy by both the government and the Coalition, is at odds with another federal ambition to increase the number of people with a research degree.
