Canberra airport owners the Snow family will pour $100m into a ground-breaking medical research project to find the first effective, personalised treatments for complex immune diseases.
The family’s philanthropic arm, the Snow Medical Research Foundation, will fund the renowned Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Melbourne to take on the “high risk, high reward” project which aims to transform the lives of those suffering chronic immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Sjogren’s syndrome, coeliac disease and asthma.
Foundation chair Tom Snow said that 18 months ago they sent a grand challenge to Australia’s top medical researchers.
